GENESIS at MAF is a partnership between GENESIS, a STEAM education non-profit, and the Marciano Art Foundation. School visits to GENESIS at MAF allow thousands of K-12 students the opportunity for interactive collaboration and exploration, and to think critically and creatively about ways to address challenges facing the world today. Students work together to decide how to apply art and technology while designing, building, and sharing a prototype inspired by the artwork they will see during their visit.

What programs are offered by GENESIS at MAF?

  • Gateway Virtual Field Trip

What days of the week may we request a school visit?

GENESIS at MAF provides 1 morning and 1 afternoon sessions Wednesday – Friday every week excluding holidays.

Morning sessions begin at 10am and are permitted to run up to 1pm.

Afternoon sessions begin at 2pm and are permitted to run up to 5pm.

How many students are permitted to attend?

In order to give students the best experience possible, we ask that schools bring a maximum of 50 students. If you are coming with 50 students, please allow a minimum of 120 minutes for your visit. If you are coming with 25 students or less, we can accommodate a shorter visit.

How many adult chaperones should we bring?

We ask that you bring 1 adult for every 15 students.

How early in advance should I make a reservation?

Please submit requests as soon as possible and at least three weeks before your first choice of visit date to allow time to process your request. We do our best to accommodate last-minute requests, but we cannot guarantee availability for requests less than three weeks in advance. If you are going to cancel your school visit and have a confirmation of receipt of a bus scholarship, please cancel no later than two weeks in advance of your trip.

What about lunches and backpacks?

We request students leave their backpacks on the bus. In response to revised guidelines from the State and L.A. County, we’ve updated some visitation protocols. Lunch is temporarily unavailable on site. We do provide the option to add a stop at the Harold A. Henry park after your gateway field trip at GENESIS. This will be an additional stop before heading back to your school and may add an extra 30 minutes to your visit.

Do you provide transportation?

We provide a limited number of bus scholarships annually to LAUSD Title I schools. If you are an LAUSD Title I school and are interested in receiving a bus scholarship, please
indicate this on your school visit request form.

If you receive a bus scholarship confirmation, there are two options for securing the bus for your school visit.

Option 1: Reimbursement (preferred method).
Whoever is coordinating the trip must submit an invoice with supporting documentation to MAF (paid invoice, receipt, etc.) and MAF will reimburse the school. Reimbursement is our preferred method because it allows us to keep transportation costs low which ultimately allows more students the benefits of our bus scholarship program.

Option 2: Direct Reservation.
If there is no way for you to book your own bus, then MAF will book one through a charter bus company.

Where should we park?

MAF is located at 4357 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA, 90010.

The entrance to the building is on Lucerne Boulevard. While there is a parking lot, we are unable to accommodate buses. You may temporarily unload and load on Lucerne, outside of the entrance to the courtyard. Bus drivers will need to make arrangements to park and wait for students elsewhere in accordance with local ordinances.
