The Library at MAF Presents: Kathleen Hanna in conversation with Jenelle Porter

A slide show conversation about art and reproduction (with a photocopy machine). In conjunction with the MAF Library exhibition Barbara T. Smith: Xerox 914, curated by Jenelle Porter.

Kathleen Hanna is a punk singer, writer, artist, and the front-woman of the influential bands Bikini Kill and Le Tigre. Her memoir, Rebel Girl, published by Ecco/HarperCollins, was an instant New York Times bestseller. Hanna is a staple in feminist publications, from college curriculums to bestselling books, and a leading voice in the punk feminist movement. She has been named one of the best live performers of our time, earning acclaim from Rolling Stone, The New York Times, NPR, Interview Magazine, V Magazine, Vogue, Entertainment Weekly, BUST Magazine, NYLON and Los Angeles Times, to name a few.

Jenelle Porter is a curator, writer, and editor. Recent exhibitions include Barbara T. Smith: Proof, ICA LA (2023), Kay Sekimachi: Geometries, Berkeley Art Museum (2021), and Less Is a Bore: Maximalist Art & Design, Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston (2019). She co-edited An Indigenous Present with Jeffrey Gibson (2023), and a Viola Frey monograph (2024). She has held curatorial positions at the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston; Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia; Artists Space, New York; Walker Art Center; and Whitney Museum of American Art.
